A brave performance from the Seconds against Whitchurch III ended in defeat at Whitchurch School. After Friday's rain, the uncovered pitch was going to be difficult for the team batting first and Whitchurch won the toss and inserted Rogerstone. Veteran Alan Hughes batted the full 40 overs to make an unbeaten 74 and carry the side to a respectable and defendable 162-7. Andy Williams second top scored with 16 not out on a special day for the Williams family as Andy was joined by both sons; Ben and Harry, in a senior side for the first time.
The sun came out at tea and the pitch dried quickly. The home side put on 66 for the first wicket, but the game wasn't done. Spinner Owen Thomas bowled terrifically to take 1 for 23 in 8 overs and Mark Harnden 4 for 35 in his 8 overs in a period when 4 catches went to ground. If they had stuck then who knows what may have happened. Whitchurch won by 4 wickets.
