Put them in and chase them down using all our resources... That was the plan and that is what happened to the tee.
A relegation battle between local rivals was a must win game for Rogerstone. The visitors got off to a quick start but once Andrew Trinder caught Tyler on the boundary the home side began to squeeze really well.
Jamie Tutton bowled 8 overs 1 for 30 and Jobi Matthew 8 overs 1 for 24. Jasmine Smith bowled 5 overs for 11 and there were the usual late wickets for Harnden, Kalliyath and Thomas. A total of 182 for 8 was 16 less than Rogerstone chased down successfully in the reverse fixture so confidence was high for chasing the total.
Jiffin Kalliyath got the innings off to a great start with 3 early boundaries but after he got out for 33 the innings began to threaten to get stuck. Ben Williams with 24 and a brilliant knock of 40 from Owen Thomas got the home side to the brink of victory. Skipper Mark Harnden was bowled for an unusual black inker so 13 were needed from 11 balls. Vice captain Martyn Smith came in and punched successive boundaries through midwicket for boundaries that had two members of the opposition wanting to buy his bat.
Jamie Tutton hit the winning run and Rogerstone had won by 3 wickets with 4 balls to spare.
"I'll remember this game for the Ben and Owen's grit" said proud skipper Harnden over a celebratory pint. Time to plan for next week...
